COURTHOUSE SECURITY OFFICER - BEST PRACTICES

Course Length - 3 Days 

This three-day course is designed for the armed or unarmed courthouse security officer. This detailed training will address a variety of topics, including the proper use of transportation equipment. Students will be introduced to, and trained in weapons retention and search techniques. A scenario and simmunitions track will provide a realistic environment to improve officer, public, and judicial safety. 

Course Objectives and Topics:

  • The general use of security restraints 

  • Electronic immobilizer security restraints

  • Successful demonstration of the proper application of security restraints

  • Demonstration of basic search procedures

  • The responsibilities and procedures performed by court security officers

  • Understanding of basic techniques for control and retention of the duty handgun

  • Understanding and application of the techniques used in situational awareness

  • Understanding of the basic principles and the benefit of conducting a threat analysis and court facility site survey

  • Coordination of a courthouse security committee

  • Successful completion of a courtroom scenario-based training

Student Equipment List:

  • Notebook and pen

  • Comfortable clothes - long-sleeve shirt and pants

  • Eye protection

  • Metal handcuffs and keys

  • Duty holster

  • Leather/work gloves for weapons retention training

  • Transportation gear used by your department (one set)

  • RED OR BLUE TRAINING HANDGUN
